Emerging Abattoirs must be assisted  says MEC

MEC Vusi Shongwe has called on the well-established and improved abattoirs in the province to assist smaller and emerging abattoirs with skills development and tips of running a successful abattoir.  He was speaking at the 2016 Provincial Abattoir Rating Scheme (PARS) award ceremony at eMnotweni in Mbombela on 27 October 2016. 

Addressing those in attendance, MEC Shongwe lauded the role played by abattoirs in ensuring that the public consumes safe and healthy meat, and that the province is exporting safe meat.  Also in attendance was the Chairperson of the Legislature Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Hon. David Dube, HoD Ms SP Xulu, Steve Tshwete Municipality Mayor Cllr Masina, Ehlanzeni District MMC Cllr Mnisi, representatives from DAFF, Red Meat Organization and other stakeholders from different provinces, including abattoir owners. 

With October declared as Food Security Month, PARS involves regular inspection of abattoirs to ensure high standards and prevent disease outbreak in both the red meat and poultry abattoirs in the province.
